Study Unit 3......................Whew!

 Study Unit 3.......................Whew!!

How did we get here so fast? Gosh, the days are flying by, but they are dragging as well....how is it even possible for time to both move fast and stand still? They do say that time is relative, and a man made concept......Interesting, and once again a story for another, completely different blog.

This week has been a special kind of stressful and an extremely emotional one. I am the leader of my WIL group and in this week alone, we have had a member who's 3 month old baby is in hospital, a member who's mother passed away and a member who was involved in a serious car accident.  Then to top it all off, my daughter has a friend who lost her 3 year old baby sister in a car accident on Tuesday.  How can there be so much sadness at one time? The death of the little girl has been exceptionally painful for me, and has made me feel even more grateful and blessed to be able to hold my children in my arms. But it has also been my baby's birthday, she is 8, so she definitely does NOT consider herself to be a baby, but she is my youngest child and so will ALWAYS be my baby! Whether she likes it or not!! 😂

I enjoyed this study unit, as I find the concept of play so interesting. I love watching children playing and I love the way that their imagination and world that they are playing in takes over, and that world becomes all that they can see.  I can actually remember imaginative play from my childhood and it was wonderful! What I would give to be able to immerse myself into play like that again, where nothing else in the world mattered.  In July, I attended a virtual seminar on free play and how important it is, and there was a woman who ran a preschool focusing on free play.  I loved the concept of giving children the ability to choose what they wanted to play with and how they wanted to act out the play, we as teachers just need to be the ones to provide the tools and facilitate where needed.  What an amazing way to learn.

Reflection.....

During the activities some learners felt uncomfortable due to the lack of understanding of the lyrics of the song that was sung and some felt uncomfortable dancing in front of members of the opposite sex and also the choice of music, due to religious reasons. This could have been avoided by explaining the song, its origin and what the lyrics are in the language that the learners are being taught in. Before choosing a song or activity one should be sensitive to other peoples religious beliefs and this teacher could have possibly avoided any conflict by first checking in with the parents on what their views are regarding the song and activity - this is especially important when the teacher has limited knowledge regarding that particular religion.

I would explain all new song lyrics before playing the song, and I would check in with my learners regarding the dancing.  I don't like the idea of learners dancing in a circle and one learner at a time going into the middle of the circle and dancing. I feel that this could be embarrassing for some, as not everyone feels confident while dancing and many people do not like attention focused on them in such a way. I would just have my learners all dancing together at the same time. Also, to help some learners who lack confidence, I would join in and dance with those learners.

Anyway, that's it for me this week, I hope that everyone makes time to sing and dance today!!
