Study Unit 1 Whaaaaat?
Part 1
My week has been good so far......quiet.....just the way that I like it. I am feeling pretty stressed out though. School has broken up for my girls, and so we are all at aftercare for most of the holiday, and I am still working.......next week I am on leave, and I would love to spend huge amounts of time with my girls but that wont be possible because I will be spending most of my time doing my study work. Don't get me wrong.......I am enjoying my studies, and I knew that this would be the price that I would have to pay to be a student, and this is just how it has to be for a few years, and hopefully my girls will see the benefits of hard work.......but, sometimes the mom guilt can be really bad. I must admit that, as per the start of every semester, I am feeling very overwhelmed......I never feel as though I am doing enough or like I have enough time.....any other moms reading this and feeling the same? Raise your hand....I feel you sister! Anyway, working, running a home, being a mom, and studying.......some days I feel like Superwoman.......unfortunately this is not one of those days.
I am brave,
I am strong,
I am smart,
I am kind,
I can do hard things!
Part 2
I never knew how incorporating music into the curriculum can have such a wonderful impact on a child and how it can have a holistic effect on their development. It makes so much sense, and it is is such an easy thing to incorporate into our every day routine in the classroom...... offically mind blown!
I love the idea of teaching children how to create their own music patterns using their bodies.....this is movement and music combined in such a wonderful way......I love that we can incorporate music into our other subject lessons so that we can make learning fun and impactful
Part 3
I do not feel very confident about teaching music through movement just yet.....I don't feel like I know enough about certain terms such as tonality, pitch, and harmony to be able to give a successful lesson. I enjoy music and dancing so I could probably create a fun movement lesson while playing music, but I would definitely prefer to broaden my knowledge before taking on that task in a classroom.
I would most certainly have to say that I would choose movement over music. Firstly. because I believe that, that is an area that is seriously lacking in children's lives today - they do not move their bodies as much as they should be doing, this creates all kinds of physical problems. Secondly, because movement increases memory, and helps to prevent depression, it just makes sense that this is something that must be incorporated into daily life as it is essential to our mental health and overall well being.
The content for this study unit was quite insightful and was a good place to start for this module.....It is always good to get the "why" behind what we do in the classroom and the decisions we make regarding what we teach.
Well, that's a wrap for study unit one folks......I hope that you had as much fun reading my blog as I had creating it.
See you soon <3
